hahaha...OK...everything on there is a FAKE...so on the front page you have old victorian fake ghosts that they used in parlour tricks from the 1800s, a fake hijab painted on, a famous fake arabian girl, bootleg jazz record, bootleg blues record, counterfeit picasso painting recovered from an art haul, an art installation from LA or miami where a japanese artist created a walk in installation with the idea of having a fake swimming pool you walk in, a fake osama bin laden driving liscence, fake pollock, fake eye lashes, mark gonzales fake skateboard (bending the rules), ben jones tromp l'oeil fake ladder paintings (he does them physcially for installations - inspired by 8bit art), fake tuxedo tee, bootleg motley crue record label, early reconstructive surgery....etc etc

everything on there (and will be) a fake, bootleg, counterfeit, cover version, ripoff, market hackjob etc

I love getting inspired by the internet. Mainly through Tumblrs. If you bookmark 20+ tumblrs, most of them have the same identical images or the same identical limited genrepool of images - sailor tats, racing bikes, leicas, hot models, designer flats, graffitti, supreme tees etc...
I really wanted to do a tumblr but not doing the same old stuff thats already being done well. I wanted a focus, and i decided / realised how much a) i love fake shit (from bad market goods like dvds and tees to shitty fantasy photoshop images...and b) how much of our culture is based on 'fakeness'...CGI, autotune, plastic surgery, ripping off peoples ideas, covers versions, remakes of films, 'homages' like Bapestas in relation to Nikes, Palace skate tees etc etc so i thought i could do something interesting, and using a few google search engine - fakes, bootlegs, counterfeit im coming up with some interesting images....enough to make a different and interesting Tumblr...i feel.
Ive found that looking for the fake shit, is more original than just following the (Tumblr) crowd.
You might not still get it, and some people definately wont get it! but I hope your well

If you didn't think you could make art before then forget all about that. Go to an art gallery and look around at things, or look in books or magazines. It doesn't matter who the art is by, all that matters is if YOU like it or not.

Start by getting influenced by artists that you like. Write down some names and tell people about them. Look for other works by that artist. They'll probably have some work at a gallery in London so you can see the piece in real life. Doing this is AMAZING. Your favourite artist actually made that piece and you're looking right at it. Buy the postcard or ask if you can take a photo. You can look at this photo any time you like.

Start making art of your own. Buy some paper and some pens or pencils. Start small if you like. It doesn't matter if your first few pieces don't look amazing. You are LEARNING. It doesn't matter if you're copying other peoples art, you are finding your own STYLE. Sometimes this takes people an entire lifetime. ENJOY this process as enjoying expressing yourself is the whole point of being an artist.

Listen to music that YOU like, and share it with your friends. Listen to as much music as you can. You can never hear enough. Borrow or buy an ipod. Music is the soundtrack to your life so don't worry about what other people think of it. Try making music of your own. Other people may enjoy listening to it, too. Start by using something simple like garageband. Or just hum to yourself when you're alone. Start by humming along to music that you like and take it from there.

You have a brain. You can love, hate, laugh, cry. You can influence theirs. You can change peoples lives. Nothing else in the universe can do all this. Create something. Write something. Be good to people and animals. The more positive things you do, the more will rub off on other people and the more you'll feel better about yourself. The better about yourself you feel the better you'll look, the better you'll act. You'll get laid more and have more friends. Your friends like you and you like them. It's all good.

Not even the most expensive computer in the world can do what you do. It will never be able to. You can have a thought and share that thought with others through expression: Art, music, the written word; or a simple conversation with your friends. Your thoughts and opinions are just as valuable as everybody else's and should be respected equally.

Do things that make you happy! If you feel that you haven't done this for a while then you can change it. Go for a walk, even a small one in your lunch hour. Draw a picture, treat yourself to your favourite food. Take a deep breath of fresh air. Look at some trees. Listen to your favourite song. Call someone you love. You are so lucky that you can do these things.

Try not to be jealous of other people. Lifestyles, material possessions, wealth; their lives are different from yours, so you can't be sure you'd enjoy them. Realise that your own life is the most important thing in the world. Enjoy your own potential. You are just as brilliant and unique as your favourite artist, musician, movie star or entrepreneur. Nobody knows what you're capable of. Even you. The fun part is finding out.

Seeing my friends succeed always gives me an overwhelming sense of pride. This week, I saw the guys at Goodhood (the store that everybody loves to love) make another big splash with a retrospective exhibition of their collaborative work with Paul Smith's 'R Newbold' label at his aptly-named 'Box Gallery' Tokyo exhibition space.

Humble from the beginning and continuing to stay level-headed whilst enjoying increasing success, Goodhood are a brand that seem completely connected with their customers and 'the scene'. They even seem genuinely humbled and surprised when people go nuts over their stuff. It's fresh to see a truly independent brand thriving rather than some faceless mega-label, and also inspires me to push further with my own shit. They also let me rent a desk in their beautiful studio, and are always nice to me even though I piss them off massively by accumulating so much junk and generally being a messy bastard.

Whilst I was in Tokyo last year I spotted a few pieces of Goodhood's 2008 and 2009 collaborations with R.Newbold 'in the wild' and they looked really good. From what I've seen of the 2010 collection, it's incredible. Due to everything being made in Japan I'm priced out of a lot of it, but if I ever see anyone wearing thoes brown and white polka-dot shorts I don't care. I'm mugging them.

Detroit Metal City is a Japanese anime about Soichi Negishi, a gentle country bumpkin from the suburbs of Tokyo who dreams of becoming a pop star. From what I can understand he somehow ends up getting pissed off over a chick and ends up joining a black metal band as his secret alter-ego 'Johannes Krauser II', largely regareded as the 'No 1 Black Metal in Japan'. Awesome:

The 12-part mini series seems to feature demonic lyrics, screaming and a lot of simulated male on male rape. It looks incredible. One of the best things I've ever seen is this clip where Krauser rapes the Tokyo tower. Yep. You heard. It's amazing.

I just checked and there's an amazing wikipedia entry which goes into more detail:
"Soichi Negishi is a shy and gentle young man who dreams of a career as a pop musician. Our fourth project follows closely on the heels of the Tokyo show. This time, back to Hong Kong, in association with the Schoeni Gallery, we will be curating a show called 321 Solstice. The show starts on November 17th, (the 321st day of the calendar year) with a live art demonstration by Graphic Airlines, which leads up to the event opening November 19th and welcoming in the winter solstice. A time when creatives take refuge from the cold, in the warmth of their studios, where they can finally get back to the business of creating! This year, we have collected 10 artists from the UK, USA & Hong Kong; Bill London (UK), Cept (UK), David Bray (UK), Friendly Liu (HK), Graphic Airlines (HK), Jon Burgerman (UK), L1ES ONE (HK), Phil Ashcroft (UK), Swoon (USA), Vesna Parchet (UK).

It has been alot of hard work, but we feel that it has all been worth it with the line up of artists we have showing this year. Adapta has handpicked some of the finest talents from a broad spectrum of artistic skills; illustration, graffiti, streetart and graphic design are all backgrounds these artists possess.

Adapta Gallery’s third curated project will be held on November 12th - November 29th 2009, with a show in Tokyo called Close Encounters. The show consists of 8 British-based artists, including Best Ever, Cyclops, D*Face, David Bray, Matt Small, Sickboy, Word To Mother and Vesna Parchet.

The variety of work on show is eclectic, and that is precisely the reason why we chose them in the first place. From D*Face's two-dimensional graphic art to the rich textures of emerging artist Vesna Parchet's styled character-based paintings, a plethora of mediums, emotions and messages are employed for the viewer to digest.

This particular show is very close to our hearts as we are finally able to put together an amazing line up of artists to produce works for our Tokyo readers and Japanese collectors to see in person. We have been interviewing and working on projects with so many talented British creatives over the years and to finally curate our own show in Tokyo for our main audience is a true honour.

On the opening night, we will also have special guests: Usugrow, Jeff Soto, Shohei Takasaki, Yoshiki & Nagayama also showing their works.

I know there's no such thing as an original idea, and that in this case my concept wasn't particularly original in the first place, but I have to say I was pretty shocked when I saw the Hedi Slimane cover for Lady Gaga's 'The Fame Monster':

I couldn't help that this felt VERY similar to the HHNF stuff I've been working on for the last couple of years. I've had the concepts for the work online here (the password is 'comatos3') and a few of the concepts (for which I sourced images online and own no copyright) have been used in various sources including a Future Marketing feature on me from a while back.

(Please excuse the crudity of these images- They are very much initial concepts only!)

The point of sourcing images for this concept work was to help me find a photographer and some models who would be keen to help me realise the project- And a few months back I began working with the amazing Viktor Vauthier on some original portraits. The image below is our first test with Grace Small:

I know it's not an original concept, nor do I have any ownership of it... I just thought I'd share this with you all.

Anyone else sit through Derren Brown's painful hour of drivel last night? For any of you who don't know, last Wednesday Derren Brown correctly "guessed" the National Lottery numbers live on TV, complete with suspicious framing and camera shake:

Okay, so it's not the most convincing trick in the world. In fact, I think it's actually done using very simple split screen technology. The whole thing is actually filmed on a fixed camera, and the left half of the screen switches to a superimposed image halfway through- allowing for Derren's assistant behind the image to place the correct balls. The camera shake is then added to the whole thing. This is easy to do, even live.

The always brilliant Cyriak has posted his example of this exact same theory- It's an absolutely perfect visual representation- Check it out:

So, we all know how this was done. All this crap about weighted balls and mathematics is bullshit. The only misdirection that Derren showed us last night was duping us all into wasting an hour that we will never get back.
